About this event
New Ross Piano Festival has added a Jazz piano day, curated by Phil Ware. Phil and his bassist Damian Evans will give a lunchtime concert at 1.05. Enrico Pieranunzi is flying in from Italy to perform at 8.
He and Phil will be having a pre-concert public chat about life as jazz pianists at 7pm in the same venue - St Mary's Church, in New Ross, Co Wexford. Up until now the New Ross Piano Festival has been purely classical and has an international following. In this, its 12th year, it is spreading its wings and looking forward to welcoming jazz enthusiasts from all over Ireland to what promises to be an exciting additional venture.

Enrico Pieranunzi
Enrico Pieranunzi was born in Rome in 1949 and has for many years been among the most significant and well-known protagonists of the international jazz scene. A pianist, composer, and arranger, he has recorded around 80 albums under his own name, ranging from piano solo to trio, from duo to quintet. He has collaborated, either live or in the studio, with Chet Baker, Lee Konitz, Paul Motian, Charlie Haden, Chris Potter, Marc Johnson, and Joey Baron. Pieranunzi has been named Artist of the Year three times by the Musica Jazz magazine critics’ poll (in 1989, 2003, 2008). He also won the French Django d’Or prize as “Best European Musician” in 1997 and the German Echo Jazz Award in 2014 as “Best International Keyboard Artist”.
Phil Ware
Phil's career as a pianist and jazz educator has taken him throughout Europe and as far afield as America, Asia and the Middle East. His long-standing piano trio, completed by Newpark faculty members Dave Redmond and Kevin Brady, was chosen to represent Ireland at the 2008 Eurojazz Festival in Mexico City. As a sideman, he has played with international figures such as Guy Barker, Peter Ind, Ian Shaw, Gene Caldarazzo and heroes of the Acid Jazz revival, Pucho and the Latin Soul Brothers. His skills as a particularly sensitive accompanist are well-noted. Not only have they led to many engagements as musical director for live performances and studio recordings, they also form the foundation of the jazz ethos he teaches.
Damian Evans
Damian Evans is a double bassist and researcher from Perth, Australia who has been a major contributor to the Irish jazz scene since his arrival in 1997. He is leader of the Damian Evans Trio and co-leader of the Boylan/Buckley/ Evans Trio.
