About this event
The Sofa Sessions at Billy Byrne’s presents
Cutting edge contemporary Irish jazz
Roamer is an exciting new project that brings together four of Ireland’s most internationally active improvising musicians.
“If you were to pick a group that represent the best of the current generation, these four would almost certainly feature”
Irish Times
Vocalist Lauren Kinsella was recently announced as the 2016 Jazz FM UK Vocalist of the Year; saxophonist Matthew Halpin was the first Irish musician to receive the presidential scholarship to study at the prestigious Berklee College of Music; Simon Jermyn is one of the most in-demand creative music bassists in New York and drummer Matthew Jacobson tours Ireland and Europe frequently with many leading improvising musicians and ensembles.
Although based in London, Cologne, New York and Dublin respectively, all four musicians came together in July 2016 for sell a two-night sold-out run at Arthurs Pub in Dublin.
Each “roamer” has represented Ireland extensively on stages around the world and this group provides a unique opportunity for Irish audiences to see what happens when they bring all this experience together back home.
For this show, the group are presenting new material in collaboration with Irish London-based poet Cherry Smyth.
