A bandleader for more than thirty years, bassist and composer Ronan Guilfoyle unveils his latest group, assembling a formidable trio featuring two virtuoso performers – the guitarist Joe O’Callaghan and drummer Andre Antunes.
Joe is recognised as one of Irish jazz’s finest guitarists, with a technique and control that is the envy of his peers. Hailing from Salvador, Andre is fluent in the Afro-Brazilian traditions of his homeland and marries this with his explosive power in a unique combination of groove and complexity. Ronan is probably Ireland’s most experienced jazz bassist, with an international reputation as a bandleader, performer, and composer, in a career that stretches back over forty years.
Macroclimate’s music is based around improvised grooves – grooves which are arrived at with no pre-planning but which display many influences – Brazilian, funk, and of course contemporary jazz. Expect both the unexpected and the familiar as Macroclimate explore the parallel worlds of in-the-pocket spontaneity.
