About Sam Comerford:
Active on the European scene, Sam Comerford specialises in creative improvised music, playing tenor and bass saxophone. As a saxophonist, he represented Ireland in the European Saxophone Ensemble from 2012-2014. Led by Guillaume Orti, the project premiered works from composers working in contemporary improvised music, and performed 22 concerts in 14 European countries. He has represented Ireland twice in the 12 Points Festival, in 2015 and 2016.
Sam has worked with musicians and composers such as Hayden Chisholm, Ronan Guilfoyle, Guillaume Orti, Andrew Hozier-Byrne, Joao Lobo, André Vida, Ingrid Laubrock, Stéphane Payen, Yoch'ko Seffer, Nick Roth, Utsav Lal, and many more.
About Lester Young:
Lester Willis Young, nicknamed "Pres" or "Prez", was an American jazz tenor saxophonist and occasional clarinetist.
Coming to prominence while a member of Count Basie's orchestra, Young was one of the most influential players on his instrument. In contrast to many of his hard-driving peers, Young played with a relaxed, cool tone and used sophisticated harmonies, using what one critic called "a free-floating style, wheeling and diving like a gull, banking with low, funky riffs that pleased dancers and listeners alike".
Known for his hip, introverted style, Young invented or popularized much of the hipster jargon which came to be associated with the music; including the word "cool" as we know it today... An apt descriptor of the man and his music.
The Band:
Sam Comerford - Saxophone
Aengus Hackett - Guitar
Neil O’ Loclainn - Bass
Phil MacMullan - Drums
