TINA MAY
Tina May is an award-winning international jazz singer and recording artist. Originally from a little village in Gloucestershire, she studied at Cardiff University and then in Paris, where her career as a singer really began, performing with Roger Guerin, Dany Doriz and founding father of bebop drumming Kenny ‘Klook’ Clarke.
Over the years Tina has recorded with Ray Bryant, Scott Hamilton, Don Sickler and Enrico Pieranunzi to name but a few. She has also sung the title role with the Opéra de Lyon in their version of the Broadway musical Lady in the Dark by Kurt Weill and Ira Gershwin. Most recently she sang at the beautiful Shanghai Concert Hall, Hong Kong Jazz Festival and Singapore Jazz Festival.
She first worked with Phil Ware in Nottingham during the nineties, a creative encounter that has been repeated several times since.
At home on the main stage, club dates and festivals, Tina takes you on a jazz journey with stories on the way.
'Tina May is that great rarity – a singer who enhances a song.'
