About David Lyttle
Belfast drummer and producer David Lyttle is one of the most dynamic forces in Irish jazz, a creative powerhouse on and off the stage whose individual style at the drum kit has seen him work in a wide range of settings - from jazz to hip-hop to Irish trad - and collaborate with big name musicians like Kurt Rosenwinkel, Joe Lovano, Talib Kweli and Soweto Kinch.
In a busy and varied career, David has toured the US in a red Cadillac, been written about in Rolling Stone magazine and in 2017 was the British Council’s Musician in Residence in China. David is also the founder of Lyte Records, one of Ireland’s leading independent labels, which as well as producing his own records, has released recordings by ex-Jazz Messenger Jean Toussaint and New York drum legend Ari Hoenig. In 2015, David’s album, Faces, featuring Lovano, Kweli, and Duke Special, was nominated for a prestigious MOBO award for Best Jazz Act.
David's current trio, which is currently on a month-long tour of Ireland, features Donegal-born twin brothers Micheal and Conor Murray, alto saxophonist and double bassist, who recently finished studies at the Royal Scottish Conservatory in Scotland and received Jazzlife Alliance's first young musician awards in 2018.
