About this event
The Jazz Lab welcomes everybody to their 4th series showcase concert/jam session which will see students and tutors perform on the famous stage of JJ Smyth'su. A Jam session will follow, open to all musicians in the audience.
The Jazz Lab is an ensemble program created by Marco Santaroni and Cote Calmet. In addition to the ensembles, a series of masterclasses has also been running, featuring some of the most respected jazz musicians of the Irish scene.
Designed for those amateur and semi-professional musicians who have been looking for an alternative to formal academic music studies, The Jazz Lab emphasizes the collaborative and dynamic nature of Jazz.
Students acquire or develop a knowledge of the Jazz idiom though group practice in a relaxed and stimulating environment.
Under the guidance of established musicians, beginner students learn how to interpret Jazz standards themes, internalize time and basic harmonic progressions, improvise on the forms through easy steps, listen and interact within the group.
The more advanced ensembles will focus on complex topics, such as interplay and dynamics, phrasing, chromatic harmony, cross-rhythm, arrangement, etc
