About this event

Sunday evenings in Counihans Bar have, since last September, been the scene of a variety of weekly Jazz sessions.

At the core is Filology, a versatile trio of Roberto Carrazza on piano, Cormac O'hAonghusa on double bass, John Philip Murray - Music on drums. Josephine Smyth's sweet voice adds further variety to the sound, which moves easily between songs from the "Great American Songbook", through Be-bop, Latin American and who knows what. Counihan's is a venue with atmosphere....Add a little jazz and the atmosphere deepens.... The welcome extends to musicians and singers who would like to join us to play one or two choruses on one or two tunes during the first half.....there is a list.....to be included, just add your name and we'll back as many as time will allow.

During the second half we will entertain you with our repertoire.

As there is no cover charge, we would ask patrons to enjoy a little cordial, or a cuppa, or something more beery, dearie, or if it's not too early in the day, a little spirited liquid may add to your enjoyment....there are choices to be made.....

I am reliably informed that spring has schprunnnnng, so even if the weather doesn't agree, you can allow Filology to put pep into your consciousness, or consciousness into your step, if you prefer....
