About this event
Sunday, 18th February, Filology and Counihan's bar welcome the extraordinary talents of Dave Fleming, double bass, and Ray Preston, harmonica, as our specail guests.

Dave is no stranger to Cork or Counihan's. He has played countless times at the Guinness Cork Jazz Festival, with some of the headline acts, in venues ranging from the Opera House to the Metropole Hotel and many others besides. He is a noted accompanist with a remarkable ability to choose just the right note to give the front line singer or player, the guiding presence that inspires confidence to reach into their intuitive, creative side! Dave will be playing on the main stage in the National Concert Hall, Dublin, Ireland. On the 21st Feb: 'Thomas Moore Reawakened' and on the 23rd Feb: 'Time to Blossom - The songs of Blossom Dearie with Susannah DeWrixon.' In between those dates, he plays with Colette Cassidy and Nigel Clark at Bagots Hutton.
Ray Preston has been Ireland's Jazz Harmonica player for many years. Among others, during the 1970's, Ray played alongside Dave and John Philip Murray in the John Donegan quintet along with the late Mark Chapman on guitar. His favoured repertoire is of swinging bop-based tunes mixed with dreamy ballads.
The house band on this occasion will be Dylan Howe, piano (maybe sax.....too...) Cormac O'hAonghusa double bass, John Philip Murray - Music, drums and Josephine Smyth, vocals.
We will, as usual be welcoming singers/musicians from the audience to play one or two tunes with us during the first half. The second half will consist of Filology and our special guests. This promises to be another Sunday of memorable music.
You might like to relax with a refreshing little drinkie, or a mineral or have a cuppa to complement the musical refreshments that we would like to serve up!
