About this event

Gediminas Karkauskas piano
Riccardo Marenghi drums

Following the release of his acclaimed album Lost Suite, jazz pianist Gediminas Karkauskas, accompanied by drummer Riccardo Marenghi, will bring audiences on a deeply connective musical journey of contemporary original compositions and jazz favourites.

Gediminas Karkauskas is among Ireland’s most prominent jazz musicians performing today, and is internationally recognized for his exceptional melodic and improvisational technique. His album Lost Suite was named as one of the top jazz albums of 2020, with Karkauskas’ lyricism being the subject of positive critical commentary from the music industry. Debbie Burke, author of Tasty Jazz Jams Of Our Time Vol.2 called Lost Suite “an expressive, emotional debut that echoes the solitary experience, while being completely right with the universe”.

“The melodies here are exquisite and the execution flawless, melding jazz and classical disciplines to deliver six sparkling new originals.”

- Ian Mann, Jazz Mann CD review UK, in his review of Lost Suite.

Honing his talents at festivals both nationally and globally, and collaborating with some of the world’s most notable musicians such as Louis Stewart and Julian Fenton of Duran Duran, Karkauskas will return to the National Concert Hall for another unforgettable performance. Renowned for his sensitive and introspective style, this concert represents an opportunity for audiences to connect with Karkauskas’ music - and with the beauty of jazz - on a deep emotional level.

This concert will see Karkauskas team up with Riccardo Marenghi, a critically acclaimed drummer, who has perfected his craft over two decades of dedication to the rhythmic origins of jazz. Riccardo’s artistry is highly influenced by African percussion; his pioneering techniques have been developed and refined through long standing relationships with some of the continent’s most celebrated master drummers.

Showcasing the unique backgrounds, influences and styles of these remarkable musicians, this event promises to be a memorable and immensely special experience for the audience
