The Santa Rita Concerts: Loah
At a glance
About this event
Loah is Sallay Matu Garnett, a singer songwriter of Sierra Leonean / Irish origin, having grown up between Maynooth and West Africa.
For this special Santa Rita Concert, she will perform a duo set with her regular keyboardist Johnny Taylor (a staple of the Irish jazz scene), featuring acoustic, intimate arrangements of the songs from her debut EP.
Loah deals in a lithe fusion of folk and soul – her own genre which she calls “ArtSoul”. Her singles The Bailey and Cortège (which features singing in the Sierra Leonean languages of Sherbro and Mend) have garnered much critical acclaim, and a series of high profile performances over the last two years have made her something of a star of the Irish music scene. Loah will be releasing some long awaited new material towards the end of 2016.
The Santa Rita Concerts provide a unique, deeply immersive audience experience. Each evening begins at 7pm with a Santa Rita wine reception and a pre-concert interview with the evening’s musicians. The performances take place at 8pm in the museum’s beautifully resonant downstairs gallery. The space is candlelit and the atmosphere highly intimate – a concentrated ritual shared by performer and audience.
