About this event

Cian Nugent is a guitar player and composer from Dublin, Ireland who combines personal passions, such as suburban/coastal blues, traditional musics, late 1960s & '70s singer-songwriters, jazz ambitions, 20th century composition and the Takoma school into a deeply personal style. His music boasts an orchestrated and fully instrumented sound that is playful and eerie at the same time.

"patient music at its best"

- Pitchfork

Sean Carpio is a multi-instrumentalist and prolific collaborator who has appeared on over twenty recordings, including his own full-length debut WoWos (2013) - described by DIY Mag as “a determinist streak of nature loving excitability”. A constant traveller, Carpio has performed and held residencies at numerous venues - the Mattress Factory Art Museum, Pittsburgh; the Serpentine Gallery, London; the MAC, Belfast; Netwerk Centre for Contemporary Art, Aalst; the Banff Centre, Alberta; and The Model, Sligo, to name a few - and recently featured on A Winter Light (2018).

The Black Gate Cultural Centre

The Black Gate is a place of the arts. It has been born with creativity at its heart, and, with it, we will further assert the creative soul of this city. With music, literature, art, film, dance, and learning, we will create a home for the artist and a haven for art lovers. This will be a place to enjoy. Both for the events that happen here or for the atmosphere. Whether listening to a concert, watching a film, listening to a speaker, enjoying reading a book in the library with a coffee or a glass of wine, or having a good night with old friends, we will welcome you, we will look after you, and we will entertain you.
