Requiem for the Truth

About this event

Following a successful 4-night sell-out run at Dublin Fringe 2017, and a headline stint at the Bergen Fringe 2018 in Norway, Requiem for the Truth is returning this October and November.

A 5-star review from the Bergen Tidende (a Norwegian national paper) described the show as an “energetic, with an infectious musical expression”.

Produced by the exciting collaboration between Stomptown Brass - a 10 piece brass band - and Collapsing Horse - Ireland’s most innovative theatre company - Requiem for the Truth draws from the colourful, celebratory traditions of the New Orleans Jazz Funeral and the dark, mournful solemnity of the Catholic mass.

This is a funeral unlike any other: an extravagant, chaotic street party, with a dark twist.

Nothing less should be expected from the combination of two of the most exciting groups of artists to emerge from Ireland in recent times.

Stomptown Brass are an outrageously energetic 10-piece street-funk brass band who have made their name playing sold-out shows up and down the country, and have become legends of the festival circuit for their raucous driving rhythms, and intricate melodies. This theatrical collaboration will see them break new ground after a year which included their successful single “I Got a Plan” and major slots at Electric Picnic, Longitude, Sea Sessions, Another Love Story, and Indiependence, along with sell-out shows at The Sugar Club, Cyprus Avenue and Dolans.

Collapsing Horse are without a doubt Ireland’s most interesting and innovative theatre company, with a string of hugely successful original shows already under their belt including Bears in Space, Human Child, MONSTER/CLOCK, The Aeneid and The Water Orchard. Described by The Irish Times as “One of the finest groups of artists to emerge in recent years”, Collapsing Horse are seeking to make 2019 a year to remember.

This is by far the biggest and most exciting collaboration for both of these groups this year. But please don't say that if you're talking to anyone else we worked with.
