Biography:

Nicholas Canny (aka. Real Human) is one of the most promising emerging musicians on the Dublin jazz scene at the moment. Having previously studied both jazz and digital music, he is now exploring new and interesting ways in which to blend these contrasting styles. In the past, he has played with notable bands such as the Tetratonic and Sax Panther, and has performed at many prestigious festivals including the Cork Jazz festival and the Edinburgh Fringe festival.

In his newest project “Real Human”, Nicholas is performing his own original compositions as a one-man band, which is achieved with the use of computer software, recorded loops, midi controllers and live guitar. The goal of the project is to find the perfect balance between composed material and improvisation. At the same time, it explores ways in which loops can be used to create ever-changing and engaging music. With this project, Nicholas has also found a way to avoid physically using his laptop during performances, which makes for an outstanding visual and musical experience.
