About this event

Ensemble Music is extremely proud to present the long-awaited launch of Loah’s debut EP This Heart, and her first Dublin headline show in almost 2 years!

Ever since she first landed on the scene 3 years ago, the Irish/Sierra Leonean ArtSoul singer has been hailed as one of Ireland’s most unique musical prospects – performing at Electric Picnic, Body&Soul, the National Concert Hall, Vicar Street, Other Voices, SXSW, and in Paris and New York despite not having a single official release to her name.

In that time she’s developed a loyal following, while carefully crafting her songs into a distinct sound, bringing together her West African roots, classical training, funk/soul songwriting, and her supergroup of jazz musicians to create a totally singular style she calls “Art Soul”.

The “This Heart” EP is the culmination of that process – one which has prioritised mature reflection over haste – and it is with great pride that we are finally releasing her first record into the world. We hope you’ll join us.

Plus special guests TBA.

“The Irish Sierra Leonean singer is a unique talent, a magnetising performer and any time you see her sing, there’s a palpable sense of a musician on the rise..”

– Nialler9

“Her music has elements of soul, funk R&B and rock, and she’s also rightly proud of her roots”

– John Oseid, Forbes

“Her stirring songs reflect her diverse roots… Loah is a conduit between two cultures.”

– Linsey Rhoades, Village Voice

Venue details

The Sugar Club

"It's a venue to die for. Wood panelled walls, plush banquette seating and a pristine sound system render the rest of Dublin's night-life cruddy in comparison."The Irish Times

After opening in 1963 The Irish Film Theatre closed its doors in 1985. It would be another 14 years before the space would be used again and so it was in August 1999 that The Sugar Club was born.
