About this event

Weird Glitches

“This is seriously complex and accomplished stuff. Highly recommended.”–HotPress

Led by guitarist Stephen McHale, Weird Glitches music stems from a combination of influences, creating a sound that incorporates the melodic simplicity and listenability of popular music with the improvisational elements of jazz. Think Radiohead meets Kurt Rosenwinkel, with a healthy undercurrent of Rage Against The Machine and you'll be close to hearing what's in store for you as a listener. Featuring some of the finest young musicians working in Ireland today; Peter Erdei on bass, Mark Flynn on keyboards, and Matthew Jacobson on drums. Weird Glitches have performed at Electric Picnic, Cork Jazz, Dublin Guitar Night, Galway Guitar Night.

Edel Meade -A Musical Tribute to Billie Holiday

“An undoubtedly beautiful voice” - ALL ABOUT JAZZ

An award-winning singer, composer and lyricist based in Dublin, Ireland, Edel Meade's original songs have been inspired by jazz and neo-soul grooves, while her distinctive reworking of music by Michael Jackson and Joni Mitchell mark her out as a startlingly original artist. Meade is now set to dazzle Dublin audiences with her interpretations of the music of the iconic jazz singer, Billie Holiday. Having recently recorded her debut album, Edel is widely regarded as one of the most gifted young Irish musicians to emerge in recent years. Meade is the driving force behindThe Swoo-Beh Project(formed in 2010), an adventurous improvising group providing a vehicle for her unique concept of modern vocal performance. Her original songs have been performed by Honor Heffernan (Ireland), Sheila Jordan (USA) and the Roberto Danobeitia group (Chile). In addition, Edel works extensively as a teacher and has been invited to present her unique ‘Demystifying Jazz Singing’ program at Trinity College, University College Dublin, NUI Maynooth and as a workshop series in Dublin.

ReDiviDeR

“One of Ireland’s most exciting young talents” –The Irish Times

Drummer Matt Jacobson established this two-horns-no-chords quartet in 2007 as a creative outlet for his compositions as well as his somewhat perverse fascination with anagrams. While he failed to find such avid fellow followers of wordplays, he did find and enlist the help of creative and rhythmic specialists Derek Whyte (bass) and Nick Roth (alto sax), with trombonist Colm O’Hara arriving a little later.

ReDiviDeR play all original compositions from Jacobson with influences including Charles Mingus, Steve Coleman, Deerhoof and Phil Ivey. The formula for putting all this together in one palindromic setting is downtown grooves with catchy melodies and collective improvs. Performance highlights include supporting Chris Potter’s Underground, representing Ireland at the12 PointsFestival and the Cork Jazz Festival where they were also awarded the accolade of “Best Young Irish Band“. Between them, the members of the band have performed all over the world with some of the most innovative and well-respected musicians out there including Evan Parker, Gilad Atzmon, Kenny Wheeler, John Taylor, Florian Ross and Peter Evans.

Toot Sweet and the Shadow Man

“First rate musicianship combined with a heavy dose of the feel-good factor make it the ideal festival band.” -All About Jazz
