Nigel Clark & Hugh Buckley
At a glance
About this event
The two Celtic jazz guitar virtuosi, natives of Dublin and Glasgow respectively, propel the guitar duo format to new heights of musicality, technique and imagination.
Their musical rapport is tangible and there is joy and even occasional madness in the bravura of their combined brilliance.
Guitarist Nigel Clark has performed around the world from Shanghai to Los Angeles and has worked with some of the biggest names in music.
In the late 1980s Nigel joined the Glasgow band Hue & Cry as lead guitarist and he contributed arrangements to the band’s several UK top ten singles and two top ten albums.
In 1997 Nigel appeared at the North Sea Jazz Festival as special guest of his boyhood hero guitarist Jan Akkerman. In Cannes the same year, by special invitation, he performed with Akkerman, Terje Rypdal and Wolfgang Muthspiel in a band featuring Europe’s elite guitarists.
It’s hard not to crack a smile when listening to his easily flowing bop-inflected lines of Dubliner Hugh Buckley. His breezy, open playing and his generosity as an accompanist find a willing accomplice in Clark. This outing, a meditation on some of the very best of the standard repertoire will put a smile of the face of guitar fans, and many more beside.
